Mike has over 37 years experience in applying Remote Sensing and Spectral Geology to mineral exploration for diamonds, gold, base metals, uranium and geothermal resources having completed projects in 24 countries. While working within the AAC Group as a photogeologist, he carried out research into the application of spectral geology for mineral mapping using field spectrometers and airborne hyperspectral data. This lead to the acquisition of the first HyMap scanner by DeBeers. Mike was project manager for the building and commissioning of this scanner. Subsequently he managed the DeBeers Hyperspectral Mapping Unit for 9 years which included supervising and organizing surveys, developing processing and analysis techniques and providing training in the use of hyperspectral survey data, including its integration with other exploration data sets.
Mike was the principal geologist for HyVista Corporation from 2006 until 2014. He currently manages his own consultancy, Mineral Spectra Mapping.
Mike holds a PhD in Spectral Geology (Open University, UK) a Graduate Diploma in Photogeology (ITC, Netherlands) and BSc (Southampton University, UK) and is based in Melbourne, Australia.
